Kigali hosts 17th SACCA congress

The 17th annual Savings and Credit Associations of Africa (SACCA) Congress opens at the Lemigo Hotel in Kigali on October 26-28.

Organised by the African Confederation of Cooperatives Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSA) in partnership with the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda (AMIR) and the National Cooperatives Confederation of Rwanda, among other stakeholders, the gathering brings together cooperators from all over the world to address key topical issues facing SACCOs and to explore strategic and innovative techniques of ensuring sustainable co-operative financial institutions.

The theme for this year’s congress is, “Promoting Africa’s Development Agenda Through a Financial Cooperative Integrated System”. The Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, the Honourable Claver Gatete, is expected to officiate at the opening of the three-day congress, which is expected to draw over 700 participants from co-operative financial institutions across Africa and other stakeholders involved in the sector from all over the world.

These will include government officials, trade union experts, development agencies operating in Africa, and members of the SACCO family on the continent.
Also in attendance will be CEOs of small and medium scale co-operatives, financial institutions and development-focused banks, senior managers of large co-operative financial institutions and related private sector, as well as co-operative board/management committees, among others.

Some of the confirmed participating institutions include the Master Card Foundation, DFID, Umwalimu SACCO, Kenya Police SACCO, the National Credit Union Foundation of the US, American Credit Union Coalition and The Irish League.
The summit will see a flow of innovative ideas through breakout sessions and specialised business clinics bringing together people with different expertise and from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
